MUSIC NEWS: the Local Picks | Growing Up | Upcoming Show(s)

Hey all!

Last night, I had a really great time performing with Enrico Piazza and Paul Castellanos in the band, theLocal Picks. It’s always refreshing when you get to share the stage with truly humble musicians whom are very talented and able. The location was pretty clutch too! We performed 3 complete sets for a great group of people. Lots of fun, lots of dancing. All right on the water at Batiquitos Lagoon. Looking forward to more shows this summer!

Back in the day, I was a little hesitant to join a cover band. Thankfully, I had some really close friends/pro musicians talk some sense into me and was introduced to Enrico. Now, I'm learning a lot and having fun with it. This is far from an ordinary cover band situation. So much room for growth and possibilities. I get to experiment with different gear configurations and really delve into creativity. Most of all, the experience is awakening a lot of creativity in my original music as well.

Next show: June 15, Aztec Brewery! I'll be performing with various friends in my local and distant music family. The details haven't been completely sussed out just yet. I'm leaning towards a 3-part set riddle with covers, crossover jazz/indie originals, and compositions from a new venture that I have been working on. Joining me on bass and other instruments, will be Noor Che'ree. He is one of the bass players that have come through in Kinetic, my long time moniker. There have been a rotating door of musicians in a few of my projects; They have all been very unique and talented players. Noor is a close friend and an extremely achieved player. I'm honored to be back in the performer's ring with him. So, as we get closer to the date, we will keep you in the loop with who will join us on stage and what else will be involved.

The Music Modernization Act Is Now Law: ASCAP Statements on Presidential Approval

NEW YORK, Oct. 11, 2018— President Donald J. Trump today signed into law the Music Modernization Act, a comprehensive bill that aims to reform our outdated music licensing system and give music creators an opportunity to obtain compensation that more accurately reflects the value of music.

Below are statements from ASCAP Chief Executive Officer Elizabeth Matthews and from songwriter, ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams:

“Thanks to the unrelenting efforts of our ASCAP music creator and publisher members, industry partners and champions in Congress, a more sustainable future for songwriters is finally within reach. The MMA's unanimous passage in the House and Senate proves that the power of music is a great unifier. ASCAP is gratified to have stood alongside creators, music publishers, and many more to make this dream a reality.” – Elizabeth Matthews, ASCAP Chief Executive Officer

“A young songwriter once wrote, ‘You give a little love and it all comes back to you; You’re gonna be remembered for the things that you say and do.’ Decades later, this could not be more true. Songwriters across this country now and in the future will remember those who fought so hard for the Music Modernization Act—both in Congress and across the music industry. On behalf of the music community, we are so thankful for the love and will return the favor with music for generations to come.” – Paul Williams, songwriter, ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President

Yesterday's show with Deep Water Rise, God Particle, Cole Vasallo, and CUE!!!

Hey all,

Yesterday's show with CUE presents... yeah, what an incredibly fun and delightful experience.  Ebullition Brew Works was filled with the body-rocking grooves laid to the dance floor by Cole Vasallo, God Particle, Luis Tryptich, and Deep Water Rise.

It was an honor to sit in with Deep Water Rise foundational members, Robert Abramian and Tim Tryptich. I had so much fun jumping in with them to create such spontaneous, richly layered, improvisational music. We kept everyone dancing and feeling the good vibes. Pretty good turnout for only have played with those guys for the 2nd time ever and improvised our whole 2-hour performance, and had fun the whole time... Looks like we have to play some more shows together!

Here's our Facebook live footage of God Particle and Deep Water Rise. Enjoy!

A big thanks to Ebullition Brew Works, LLC for being so hospitable, delivering the best brew I've had in a long time. Second wave of thanks to them for giving us the opportunity to perform at their establishment.

Thank you to Full Metal Burgers for creating some of the most delicious burgers in town. I had the South of Heaven. I could have gone with the double, but opted for the single patty. The single patty was enough to feed a small village ;) If anyone hasn't had the pleasure of experiencing their grilling wizardry and their Heavy Metal inspired dishes, you must get your fill of their tantalizing treats. Get some!

Most of all, I would like to thank every music-maker involved for giving me the opportunity to have some fun and share the stage. All of you guys are so talented and have a really undeniable good energy. Glad I could be a part of the event. I look forward to doing it again soon.

Until next time... A toast to the muses!

Mike
